Sarah Warren writes historical romance and runs a STEM communications firm. This is where those two worlds collide.

In the early mornings:

I’m a historical romance author whose work lives at the intersection of historical romance and upmarket fiction. I like strong external plots, stronger heroines, high stakes, and historical depth.

My work is set in the early Victorian period — a time that feels both foreign and fantastical. Because it was a time when every aspect of society was changing, it resonates with very familiar themes like identity, belonging, and personal transformation.

If you’re familiar with the historical romance genre, my work falls somewhere between Joanna Lowell’s layered characters, Mimi Matthews’ emotional depth, Evie Dunmore’s unapologetically smart heroines, and Loretta Chase’s immersive historical detail.

I’m currently querying my debut novel, the first in a planned series, and am seeking literary representation. (Hint hint.)

If you follow my Substack, you’ll quickly notice I love research. My writing is shaped by twenty years spent turning complex science and engineering innovations into stories that connect with lay audiences. I did that first at a Tier 1 research university and now on my own.

During the day:

When the clock strikes 9 a.m., I transform into the owner of Serif+Sway, a one-woman copywriting, branding, and strategy firm that helps science, engineering, energy, and technology businesses explain complicated things in ways that connect. My claim to fame is getting magnetized nanoparticle research featured on the news by explaining it like salad dressing.

I live in Oklahoma with my husband, our two little boys, and our standard poodle Georgie. I never say no to a museum, a good stationery aisle, or the question “why?”

Thanks for joining me in the margin.
